Alain Noël
Emeritus Professor of Political Science
Université de Montréal
Bonjour,
I am Professor emeritus of political science at the Université de Montréal.
I work on social policy in a comparative perspective, as well as on federalism and on Quebec and Canadian politics.
My main book, La droite et la gauche: un débat sans frontières, co-authored with Jean-Philippe Thérien, was published in 2010 by Les Presses de l’Université de Montréal. The original English version, Left and Right in Global Politics, published by Cambridge University Press, won the 2009 International Relations Prize of the Canadian Political Science Association.
From 2006 to 2014, I was president of the Centre d’étude sur la pauvreté et l’exclusion (CEPE) of the Quebec government. Previously, I was vice-president of the Fonds québécois de recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC), a member of Quebec’s Commission on Fiscal Imbalance, and a visiting professor at the Institut d’études politiques de Grenoble, the Institut d’études politiques de Lyon and the School of Social Welfare of the University of California at Berkeley.
In 2013-14, I was president of the Canadian Political Science Association.
I am a member of the Royal Society of Canada.
This web site's architecture is in French, but it hardly needs translation. The site presents my publications (usually with links), some of the courses I have taught and the students I supervised, a few videos and an email address to contact me.
Bienvenue.
